Quebec man dies in collision of family vehicles

Quebec provincial police are investigating a fatal crash Thursday between two vehicles carrying members of the same family.

A pickup truck and van collided on Highway 40 east of Trois-Rivières at 9:30 a.m., police said.

Sûreté du Québec Sgt. Eloise Cossette said it’s unclear why the two vehicles crashed into each other as they were both headed east toward Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade.

"Were they following each other? Was one car passing the other? Ice on the road? Presently, we cannot give any explanation,” she said.

The man who died was in his 30s and was a passenger in the van, police said.

Six other people, including three children, were also travelling in that vehicle.

Three people were in the pickup truck at the time.

The six people in the van were taken to hospital, said police, who are investigating the crash.
