January is here, which means three things must be true. One, the number of people in line for cardio equipment at the gym has gone from non-existent to five deep. Two, everyone's pants feel a little snug as we start 2012, thanks to a solid week or two (or month) of holiday indulgences. And three, most people are frantically setting, and resolving to stand by, new year's resolutions in order to help address the added holiday pounds.
For my part, I've resolved to start eating healthier and cooking more, which might sound intimidating, were it not for the plethora of new products hitting grocery stores, designed for the time-crunched foodie who still wants a healthy meal. It's like the food companies have been reading my mind! Scary.

Healthy Eating For The New Year
One of my favourite finds is a new series of Asian cooking sauces from Blue Dragon. They're MSG-free, with low sodium and authentic, quality ingredients, most of which you can actually recognize and pronounce (Michael Pollan would be proud).
So far I've used the Thai Red Curry Paste to turn out a mouth-watering chicken curry and I'm dying to try the Wasabi and Plum Stir-Fry Sauce, which sounds like a sweet and spicy party for my mouth.
Other products on my resolution grocery list include the new PC Black Label Vinaigrette au Champagne (a fantastic dressing for spinach, chicken and goat cheese), any Nature's Path Organic product (their Crunchy Vanilla Sunrise cereal is the sweetest way to start the day) and Haagen-Dazs Five, ice cream made with just five ingredients (although sadly I've only seen this product in the U.S. Hoping it makes it across the border in 2012).
With any luck, I can stick with this new resolution and leave the cardio lineups for the gym crowd.
Blue Dragon products are available at grocery stores nation-wide, including Metro and Sobeys/IGA. PC Black Label is available at select Loblaws and Superstores in Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada. Haagen-Dazs Five is currently only available in the U.S.
