Vancouver Canucks defenceman Sami Salo will miss the team’s next game after suffering a likely concussion against the Boston Bruins on Saturday afternoon, according to reports.
Salo was hit in the knee area by Bruins forward Brad Marchand in the second period, causing the Canucks blue-liner to fall hard to the ice on the back of his head and neck.
Salo did not return to the game and Marchand was assessed a five-minute major for clipping and a game misconduct.
Canucks coach Alain Vigneault said Salo woke up with a headache Sunday morning, and is being treated as part of the NHL’s concussion protocol.
Marchand is scheduled to meet with the NHL’s head disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan on Monday.
Vancouver visits the Florida Panthers Monday night.
