The Columbus Blue Jackets have fired head coach Scott Arniel after an NHL-worst 11-25-5 start to the season, the team announced Monday.
Assistant Todd Richards was promoted to interim head coach for the remainder of the season. The former Wild head coach, who missed the playoffs in both of his seasons at the helm in Minnesota, will guide the Blue Jackets on Tuesday night in Chicago.
Arniel was in his second season as the Blue Jackets' head coach. Last year, the team missed the playoffs with a 34-35-13 record.
Arniel's last game with Columbus was a 7-4 defeat in Anaheim on Sunday night in a meeting of the NHL's two worst teams.
More to come.
