Winnipeg trucker killed in B.C. highway crash

A Winnipeg truck driver has been identified as the man killed in a multi-vehicle crash on British Columbia's Coquihalla Highway.

Dilbara Singh , 44, died in the collision involving six semi-trailers near Merritt, B.C., around 2:30 a.m. PT on Tuesday, officials with the B.C. coroner's office confirmed to CBC News.

Highway workers have said the man was killed when he got out of his truck after it had been hit. He was then struck by another semi in a chain-reaction crash.

His body was later found under the cab of another truck.

The crash closed the Coquihalla Highway for nearly 10 hours.

Highway officials had described overnight conditions as "treacherous" after 18 centimetres of snow fell in a matter of hours.
