Merritt RCMP officer still on payroll following cocaine charge

RCMP officials confirm a staff sergeant charged with stealing cocaine from a drug exhibit is still on the payroll.

Staff Sgt. Stuart Seib was suspended from his post as detachment commander in Merritt on Tuesday.

Officials with the force say a process is underway to recommend Seib be suspended without pay, but that has not happened yet.

Police allege he admitted his actions to another officer late last week and an investigation was carried out over the weekend.

Seib has been with the RCMP more than 18 years and was transferred to the Merritt detachment in November 2011.
