Montreal mother accused of killing baby daughter

A Montreal woman has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of her baby daughter.

Police were first called to a home on Shebrooke Street East on Dec. 23, where they found the body of 28-year-old Alpabahen Patel's two-month-old daughter.

Montreal police spokesperson Anie Lemieux said, an autopsy was conducted, and police arrested Patel earlier this week.

"Investigators were able to find out that the cause of death was not natural and that they were looking at a homicide case," said Lemieux.

Patel made her first court appearance Wednesday.
