Winter Returns To Canada

There’s no denying that many Canadian have had a mild start to winter, but you might want to put on those boots. The Weather Network is reporting that Canadians can say goodbye to spring-like temperatures in Eastern Canada.

Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes will experience a combination of snow and freezing rain through Saturday, according to the network.

Temperatures have been unusually high in cities across the country. Toronto experienced it’s fifth warmest December on record, CBC reported. Southern Manitoba has also been experiencing an atypical winter. The temperature in Winnipeg reached a high of almost 7 C on Jan. 5 and the lack of snow has some farmers worried about drought.

According to CBC meteorologist Johanna Wagstaffe, temperatures across Canada have been between five to seven degrees above average since last month.

The weather shift has already done some damage in Kingston, Ont. delaying a high-profile trial. The CBC reported that Tooba Yahya, the mother accused in the deaths of her three teenage daughters, was supposed to resume her testimony this morning. However, the proceedings have been delayed due to the power outage at the Frontenac County courthouse caused by freezing rain.

Meanwhile on the other side of the country, Vancouver is experiencing a mild winter day with a high of 4 C and a mix of sun and cloud. Temperatures are expected to stay relatively mild throughout the weekend, with the possibility of flurries on Sunday. However it won’t be a mild weekend for other parts of British Columbia; Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for part of the north coast of B.C.
