Iqaluit boil water advisory continues

A boil water advisory continues to be in effect in Iqaluit Saturday after a water main break early Friday morning drained much of the treated water in the city’s reservoir.

Water levels in the reservoir are not yet sufficient to begin an automated chlorination process. Residents are advised to boil tap water to a rolling boil of at least one minute.

Piped water service was restored to homes and businesses in Iqaluit as of Friday night, with the exception of Inuksuk High School, which had been without water since Wednesday due to frozen pipes.

Residents are still being asked to conserve water, as the city’s water levels are still low.

The city says homes and businesses on trucked water can expect service to resume Sunday at the earliest. In the meantime, residents on trucked service in need of water can bring containers to the Fire Hall for fill up. A water truck will also be available in the Apex Garage for Apex residents to use to fill their containers on Saturday until 2 p.m.
