A 19-year-old man has been arrested after driving his SUV into Lake Ontario.

The driver is facing impaired driving charges after the bizarre accident, early Saturday morning.

The man apparently drove south on Lower Spadina Avenue — and then just kept going, failing to turn when the vehicle reached Queen's Quay.

The SUV plunged into the harbour, just after 5:30 a.m.

The driver managed to get out the passenger side of the SUV, and passersby helped him out of the water.

The temperature in Toronto at the time was about -12 C, with the wind chill making it feel more like - 25 C.

Divers with the Toronto police marine unit were in the water on Saturday morning trying to locate the 2004 Mercedes SUV.

Police have called in a crane and other heavy equipment vehicles to help in the recovery.

The driver was taken to the hospital for observation.

Hang Jiang of Toronto has been charged with impaired driving.

The local news is so old. Why not try reporting on some interesting upbeat news. And how about some current stuff. Two students sent a lego man into space. A man goes back years later to thank a judge for turning his life around and leaves him in tears. You need to make some positive changes since you are supposedly doing Canadian news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IMO of course.

Nice try, but you're way off on the photo. That's the foot of Yonge St in your harbour photo. Spadina is about 1.5km to the west.

This young man has serious problems.Being in the cold water should have soberd him up fast. At 19 his life is just begining, hope he stops drinking ,nothing good can come of it. Did they recover the vehicle?I think he should loose his licence for a while at least. Maybe retake his test before he gets it back. The good thing no one was hurt, including him.

He is 19 and driving a "2004 Mercedes SUV". I think his daddy and mommy are going to be angry that he wrecked the vehicle but more importantly I hope they take his license away for a long, long time, till say he is in his 50's. Let him enjoy the joys of public transit.

Share luck he didn't hurt or kill someone as for him who cares.
