Talked down off roof, man picked up on parole warrant

A man who was the focus of a police negotiation at the roof of a home in the Rabbittown neighbourhood of St. John's was taken into custody on a parole warrant.

The man was also being held for court on charges that include uttering threats and assaulting a police officer, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said.

The RNC said officers were called to a home on Spencer Street on Saturday afternoon over what was described as a domestic dispute.

"Minutes later it was discovered that a male was lying down on the roof of the residence," an RNC statement released Sunday said.

RNC negotiators spent about two hours trying to talk the man down.

He eventually joined officers and came down to street level around 6 p.m.

No one was injured in the incident, police said.
