Montreal fire ravages popular restaurant

A suspicious fire caused heavy damage to a restaurant in Montreal's Plateau Mont Royal neighbourhood Sunday night, and investigators from the city's arson squad will be on the scene Monday morning to try to determine how the fire was set.

Sixty firefighters were called to the building that houses Dusty's, a popular brunch place, at 4510 Park Ave. near Mont-Royal Ave. around 8 p.m. Sunday. The two-alarm fire had broken out in the restaurant on the first floor.

"It seems that there was a smell of accelerant in the restaurant when the first firefighters got in," said Const. Daniel Lacoursière.

The restaurant was closed and empty at the time.

The second and third floors of the building were not damaged in the fire.
