MEXICO CITY - Police in Mexico say the body of a Canadian man has been found on a street in the city of Culiacan in Sinaloa state.

Sinaloa state police say Salid Abdulacis Sabas had been shot to death.

He was carrying a Canadian identification card. His age is not known.

Sinaloa is home to the cartel led by Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, considered the most powerful drug trafficker in the world.

State police said Monday in an emailed statement that Abdulacis was shot with a high-powered weapon close to midnight on Sunday.

Officials have not provided a motive for his killing.

WHY OH WHY DO PEOPLE GO TO MEXICO!!!!!!!!It is not safe that is very clear. I get phone calls weekly for big discounts on trips to Mexico. That would be the very last place I'd go. I even tell them that. This person seemed to be in a very dangerous part of Mexico. WHY?? Hope they get to the bottom of it. I know it will be ANOTHER unsolved case.

The Mexican people need to demand jobs, safety and services from their government.

For too long they have opted to leave their country rather than work to change it.

Have any of you ever stopped to think that perhaps all those Mexicans illegally crossing the U.S. Border, is actually telling you something about Mexico. ???

There were more than 25000 homicides in Mexico last year. Canada had 554. I think people have a reason to be concerned.

Of course people are murdered in Canada... but in Mexico it obviously happens too often.

How many times do I have to say it, DO NOT GO TO MEXICO!!!!!!!!!
It is a third world country that has no law enforcement, no justice system, drug cartels and a lawless society!
Please people, there are other safe beautiful vacation spots to go to!
Why not just go to Kabul? It is probably safer and cheaper than Mexico.

Most Canadians who go to Mexico have been there before. They would rather rely on their own experience than listen to hysterical nonsense like that from people who have never been there and clearly have no idea what they are talking about.
