TORONTO - Students compete to design for Basch line

Aspiring designers will vie for a chance to put their stamp on a Canadian label in a contest geared towards students.

Manufacturer Eleventh Floor Apparel is behind the design competition Basch It Up.

The contest aims to engage students and design schools across Ontario. Academy of Design, Fanshawe College, George Brown College, Seneca College and Ryerson University are among the participants.

The contest challenge entails creating two original pieces to be incorporated in the fall-winter 2012 collection for Basch.

An expert industry panel will whittle student submissions down to two finalists to represent their individual schools.

Finalists chosen will have access to the Eleventh Floor Apparel manufacturing facility to create their garments. The design and production house is also the proprietary owner of the Lundstrom and Lundstrom Collection brands.

The winner will be announced on March 6 at 99 Sudbury in Toronto. The event will feature a presentation of all of the finalists' garments as well as a runway show of the Basch fall line.

The grand prize will include a six-month paid internship at Eleventh Floor Apparel, a $1,000 clothing allowance from Basch, and a $700 clothing allowance from Eleven boutique in Toronto, where the winning outfit will be sold. The winner's two-piece mini-collection will be marketed across North America through Basch agencies.————
