Vercheres, Quebec Town Hall Attack: Rolland Belzil Charged With Attempted Murder
SOREL-TRACEY, Que. - A man has been charged with the attempted murder of two Vercheres, Que., city employees after an attack on the town hall last week.
Rolland Belzil was arraigned today at the courthouse in Sorel-Tracy.
Belzil's lawyer said his client is a suicide risk and that's why he did not enter a plea.
Belzil has been sent to the Pinel Institute in Montreal to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
He will return to court on Feb. 13.
Last Friday, a man entered the town hall in Vercheres, northeast of Montreal, and stabbed the director-general and his assistant.
The man was overpowered by city employees and then arrested by police.
Police are also investigating the fatal stabbing of an 80-year-old man who was found dead as they began their investigation into the city hall attack.
