B.C. tow truck driver loses leg

A tow truck driver has lost a leg after being seriously injured on Sunday while trying to hook up a vehicle in icy conditions in Richmond, B.C.

The Rusty's Auto Towing driver, who has not been named by police, was hit by a passing car at around 9 a.m. on Highway 91, after pulling another vehicle out of a ditch.

Deas Island RCMP arrived to find the driver pinned between his truck and the recovered vehicle, with severe injuries to both legs.

The driver of the car that hit the victim remained at the scene and police say they are considering charges.

"Road conditions contributed to this incident, however they weren’t the main causal factor. Alcohol was not a factor," said Cpl. Somerville.
