Gatineau mosque vandal photos released

Photos and a video of a man in his 20s caught vandalizing a Gatineau, Que., mosque have been released by police.

Police released grainy surveillance photos of the man from Jan. 5 video. This incident was the second such case of vandalism on the Outaouais Islamic Centre in a week, featuring racist messages against Islam.

The same man is suspected in both cases.

The acts prompted reaction from Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Immigration Minister Jason Kenney and Gatineau Mayor Marc Bureau.

Police are investigating the incidents as hate crimes and the City of Gatineau features surveillance video of the incident on its website.

Anyone with information about the vandalism or the suspect is asked to call Gatineau police 819-243-2345, ext. 6146.

After those two attacks, a second Gatineau mosque went public with anti-Muslim slurs sent via email during the same week as the two vandalism attacks.
