Dozens of flights have been cancelled at Toronto's Pearson airport due to fog blanketing the American northeast.

Airport officials say 120 flights have been cancelled over the past 24 hours at Pearson.

An Air Canada spokesperson told CBC that passengers should check to ensure their flights are on schedule.

Flights have also been cancelled at the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, where Porter Airlines was advising its customers Tuesday to confirm their flight status before arriving at the airport.

Air Canada warned that its own flights leaving the island airport “may be impacted by forecasted low ceilings, fog and reduced visibility."

The same weather pattern promoting bright midday and afternoon sunshine to the East will promote more areas of morning fog through the middle of the week.

High pressure at most levels of the atmosphere is keeping storms away from the East. However, the same fair weather system is also responsible for light winds.

The long November nights, combined with clear skies and lack of wind, will make for more perfect morning fog conditions in parts of the interior South, mid-Atlantic and western New England into Wednesday.

Patchy dense fog can mess up the morning commute. This applies not only to highway travel, but also at area airports.
