Vancouver council targets BC Place video screens

Vancouver councillors say they are not giving up the fight to have the operators of BC Place bring their giant video screens into compliance with city bylaws.

On Tuesday morning, the council passed a motion to push PavCo to develop a clear action plan to bring the signs into line, although city manager Penny Ballem said the provincial crown corporation is not legally required to comply with city bylaws.

Residents near BC Place have complained the flashing lights from two of the giant video screens on the exterior of the stadium light up their apartment condos several blocks away brightly enough to read at night.

The giant video screens were erected outside the stadium as part of its $563-million renovation, which was completed in September.
