Frigid temperatures and stormy weather teamed up Thursday to shut down government offices and schools in much of Labrador for at least the morning.
About 30 centimetres of snow had fallen in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, where schools in the area closed for the day.
Numerous public services and offices were also closed. [MORE: Check our Storm Centre for details on local closures.]
The storm also closed some schools and public services in coastal communities, including Nain, Hopedale and Makkovik.
In Labrador West, severely cold temperatures prompted officials to keep schools closed for the morning, with classes between Kindergarten and Grade 3 closed all day.
A windchill of -42C was reported.
