Manslaughter charge laid in Newfoundland slaying

A central Newfoundland man has been charged with manslaughter a week after a man was killed in the small community of Trinity, Bonavista Bay.

RCMP said Ivan Curtis King, 57, has been charged in the death of Winston Hunt, who died at his home late on the night of Jan. 13. RCMP immediately launched what they described as a homicide investigation.

King, a Gambo resident, was arrested without incident and has been remanded into custody until at least a provincial court appearance on Monday in Gander.

RCMP said the arrest was made on Friday evening, although the force did not issue a news release until Saturday night.

Authorities have not disclosed how Hunt, 57, died.

Ian Parsons, a friend who had been at Hunt's house during a drinking party that evening, told CBC News last week that a fight broke out and that he saw another man reach for Hunt's throat.
