Wind warnings issued for parts of southern Alberta

RCMP are advising motorists that high winds across southern Alberta are affecting traffic on Highway 2 south of Calgary.

Wind warnings are in effect from Fort Macleod south to the U.S. border and from the Crowsnest Pass over to the Saskatchewan border — with gusts up to 110 kilometres per hour in the forecast.

Police say vehicles — especially trucks with large or light loads — are being buffeted by the winds and they are urging motorists to exercise caution.

"We had a transport truck and trailor go over last night in the wind, and then we've had two go over already this morning as well as one truck and RV," said Sgt. Brent Hawker.

Strong wind gusts are expected to continue for a few hours and ease up a bit later on Wednesday afternoon.
