Harper At Davos 2012: PM To Pitch Canadian Economy To World Leaders
DAVOS, Switzerland - Prime Minister Stephen Harper will be talking up the Canadian economy in Davos, but a new study of growth and jobs in Canada says we actually didn't fare very well during the economic turmoil of the past few years.
Harper is meeting global business leaders this morning and will be touting Canada as a prime destination for investment, trade and economic stability.
This afternoon, he will address 2,600 delegates, and push Europe to be more like Canada in ensuring fiscal stability and strength in the banking system.
But Canadian Autoworkers economist Jim Stanford has had a new look at jobs and growth, per person over the past few years.
And since Canada's population is growing quite quickly compared to other countries, Stanford finds that our per capita growth and job creation is really quite mediocre by global standards.
