Laval police raids target gangs

A large police operation took place Thursday in Laval, Que., targeting street gangs.

Laval police said they have arrested six people so far in connection with a spike in violence in the Montreal suburb. About 100 police officers were involved in the operation.

Searches were conducted at a number of locations including a restaurant on Cartier Boulevard West.

Laval Police spokesperson Stéphane Pilon said a tip from the public helped lead them to the arrests.

"We received confidential information on our line 662-INFO. We investigated more. Today, we have enough to arrest six people and search eight places for more proof," said Pilon.

Pilon said the suspects could face charges including intimidation, assault and kidnapping.
