People should not drink certain Neilson microfiltered partly skimmed milk because it may be contaminated with a cleaning solution, federal food officials say.

Montreal-based Saputo and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced the recall of Neilson Trutaste 2% Microfiltered Partly Skimmed Milk sold in 4 litre bags with best before date February 12.

One woman who bought the milk got sick to her stomach after drinking it, the company said.

The bags were distributed in Ontario and in Aylmer, Que., the agency said.

The recalled products bear the UPC code 066800 00404 4 and a best before date of Feb. 12 that appears on the bag closure tab. No other codes are affected.

Milk containing this cleaning solution may not look or smell spoiled, but drinking it may cause symptoms such as nausea, upset stomach or vomiting.

The recall includes 80,000 litres, about one day's worth of production, said Sandy Vassiadis, director of communications for Saputo.

The company said consumers who see that they have the the affected milk in their fridge to take it back to the store for a refund. The store will then return the milk to Saputo for tests.

Both Saputo and CFIA are investigating how the cleaning solution got into a batch of milk at the company's facility.

CFIA said it is monitoring the effectiveness of the company's voluntary recall.
