A 59-year-old woman was found nearly frozen to death in Iqaluit early Wednesday morning.
RCMP say they found her semi-conscious in a parking lot in the 500 block of Iqaluit after responding to a call around 2 a.m. Wednesday.
The woman was lying face down in the snow. According to Environment Canada, the temperature at the time was –23.9 C, with a wind chill making it feel closer to –38 C.
The Iqaluit resident was taken to Qikiqtani Regional Hospital where she was treated for severe hypothermia and severe frostbite. She was later sent to Ottawa for further treatment and is stable condition.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Iqaluit detachment.
They're also advising people to dress for the weather, and to ensure that people are physically able to get home safely.
