Glenn Howard capped an undefeated tournament run with a 6-5 win over rival skip Kevin Martin in the final of The Pomeroy Inn & Suites National in Dawson Creek, B.C., on Sunday.

The victory gave Howard (8-0) his second Capital One Grand Slam of Curling title of the season, and 10th of his career. Martin was denied his 18th crown.

"It's the best of the best at these Grand Slams and to win one here is unbelievable," Howard said. "I couldn't be happier, and to beat Kevin Martin is just icing on the cake."

Howard jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with the hammer in the first end. In the eighth and final frame, Martin needed to score a pair to force an extra, but he came up short, handing Howard the championship.

Howard took home $25,000 in total prize money ($20,000 for winning the title, plus $1,000 for each of his round-robin victories) and 40 Canadian Team Ranking System points. Martin, who also came into the final unbeaten, walked away with $16,000.

The National was the third of four Grand Slam events this season. The season-ending GP Car and Home Players' Championship will be held from April 17-22 in Summerside, P.E.I.
