Quick Study [kwik stuhd-ee]: The Huffington Post Canada's tips to make your life a little sweeter, five minutes at a time. Think of it as a cheatsheet for your general well-being.

THE EXPERT:
Forget ordering pizza and labelling your colourful bags of Doritos as menu options for your Super Bowl get together this weekend. This year with our help, you can decorate your home and try simple recipes that will make your party actually feel like one. We talked to stylist and event planner Lu Curran of Style By Lu in Toronto, on how to plan the perfect game-day event that will leave your guests full, inspired and possibly, sleeping on your couch.

"By planning early, you give guests enough notice to plan their schedules so that they can attend, and you will be able to get all the shopping and cooking done well in advance. Super Bowl parties are usually more casual in nature -- especially because the 'big game' takes place on a Sunday and most people have to work on the Monday."

Here are some of Curran's appetizer ideas for your Super Bowl party.

"I always say stick with appetizers -- they are easy and quick to cook or heat up. I prefer to enlist my guests with adding their touch to the party by bringing their favorite appetizer; instead of leaving all the pressure on the host to provide food for the entire party," says Lu Curran.

DECOR TIPS

Now that you have a menu under the belt, Curran's decor tips will add the finishing touches for your living room.

"The bar is usually a statement piece -- especially for a Super Bowl party. Next, my toppings bar and appetizers are always full and colourful. I like to create signs -- in team colours, of course -- so that guests know what each item of food is, especially with all the dietary concerns out there today.

"Having your guests wear their favourite team’s jersey or team colours will add to the decor. I would have blank Bristol board available for your guests to create their own signage for chirping each other or cheering for their favourite team. Set your living room up so that viewing the TV is easily accessible for everyone -- even if that means moving your TV to another area of your house."
