EDMONTON - The Alberta Liberals say they disagree with federal Liberal Leader Bob Rae over the merits of the Northern Gateway pipeline project.

Provincial leader Raj Sherman said in a news release Tuesday that Rae has "suggested he does not approve the construction" of the pipeline.

Sherman said Rae is on "the wrong side of this issue."

Enbridge Inc. wants to build the pipeline across Alberta and B.C. to ship oil to Asia.

Sherman said the project would help ensure that Alberta’s most important export — oil and gas — reaches the world market.

He said it's the foundation of Alberta’s prosperity, paying for schools, hospitals and roads.

"Safely transporting our product is important to Alberta and good for Canada, and such projects should move forward as long as they do so with sufficient protection for the environment," Sherman said.

He added the Alberta Liberals favour increased monitoring of emissions and stricter fines for companies that pollute.

Dr Sherman was put in charge of improving Alberta's heathcare delivery.When he called out the conservatives half-assed approach he was sacked by Ed Stelmach. He's since taken up with the Alberta Liberal party. He's a straight shooter and I would be inclined to trust what he says.
He would be a much better choice for Liberal leader than Bob Rae.
But, its kinda like herding cats with the Libs so................................
