A Canadian has been killed in a Florida RV park shooting.

Florida TV station Local10 describes the incident as a hostage situation that began around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday when the gunman shot a man and then barricaded himself inside a trailer with hostages.

"A man inside the RV told deputies he was holding a woman hostage and would kill her if they approached," the site reported. SWAT teams entered the trailer several hours later and found the shooter and a nine year old boy, reported to be his son, dead. Two others, a woman and another child were critically wounded and rushed to hospital when police entered the trailer at around 1:30 a.m.

The CBC is reporting that a Canadian was the first victim of the rampage in Deerfield Beach, north of Fort Lauderdale.

"By the time the SWAT team was able to reach the victim, he was already dead. Police believe he was not known to the shooter," CBC reports.

"This was such a devastating outcome with a little boy found dead, a woman critically injured and another little boy critically injured," Dani Moschella of the Broward Sheriff's Office told WSVN News. "It was very difficult for everybody here."

According to reports the park was popular with vacationing Canadians.
