Minute 16: Fringe Everything Has To Go

Minute 16: Fringe Everything Has To Go

By definition, trends are fleeting. They're ephemeral. And each day we see our fair share of looks we'd like to remove from our sartorial lexicon. So join us, each week, as we analyze a trend that's had its 15 minutes of fame. These looks are well into their Minute 16, folks. It's time to usher them toward stage left.

The Trend: Sure fringe was cool when it first appeared on street style blogs, but now it's getting ridiculous. Fringe is popping up everywhere, on boots to purses and even bathing suits -- why anyone would want soggy tassels weighing them down on the beach is beyond our knowledge, but stars (and us everyday folk) seem to love it.

Chief Offenders: Anybody who's anybody in Hollywood has been spotted toting around a fringe purse or in tasselled boots, with some of the chief offenders include Kristin Cavallari, Halle Berry and Olivia Wilde.

What's Wrong With It: Though it seems cute, it's just overdone. If the fringe is minimal and kept short, than, on some occasions, it's acceptable. Otherwise, the fringe hanging from your Ugg boots won't make you any more aerodynamic and, frankly, looks plain tacky.

May We Suggest: When it comes to purses, shoes or even bathing suits, opt for something simple. If you really want to stand out among the crowds, look for something with subtle detailing and preferably something that won't swoosh when you're running down the street to catch your bus.

Do you agree or disagree that this trend should end? Let us know you thoughts on Twitter!
