It can take 10,000 failed attempts to discover an invention that works, so it's no surprise that some terrible fashion inventions just didn't pan out.

The creators of things like heel condoms, lip tattoos, cleavage covers and glow-in-the-dark jeans may have developed their products with good intentions, but they're also a little weird (even for the most sartorially savvy amongst us).

We want to know, what are some of the weirdest fashion inventions you've stumbled upon? Here are some of our finds...

  • Glow-In-The-Dark Jeans

Wondering what to get the club kid who has everything? Try glow-in-the-dark jeans. Naked & Famous <a href="http://www.nakedandfamousdenim.com/blog/glow-in-the-dark-jeans/" target="_hplink">created these stunners</a> by baking a phosphorescent coating into the fabric. If left out in sunlight or under a light bulb, they'll beam like glow sticks. As an added bonus: "After you beat them up a bit the wear patterns will cause the coating to fade in certain parts of the jean and will create a unique piece of glowing art," Naked & Famous <a href="http://www.nakedandfamousdenim.com/blog/glow-in-the-dark-jeans/" target="_hplink">writes on its blog</a>. What's next for the company? <a href="http://news.discovery.com/tech/scratch-sniff-jeans-120128.html" target="_hplink">Scratch-and-sniff jeans</a>.

  • Heel Condoms

Dressing sexy just got a little safer -- and uglier -- with Heel Condoms. Roll on one of these babies to protect your heels from damage and to make your shoes <a href="http://www.theheelcondoms.com/pages/about-us" target="_hplink">what the company calls a "conversation piece."</a> Did you really want to have a conversation about condoms for your shoes? Didn't think so.

  • Temporary Lip Tattoos

Lip service took on a whole new meaning with Violent Lips' Temporary Lip Tattoos, which come in such questionable styles as fishnet, cheetah and Glitteratti. Luckily, the tattoos are temporary stick-ons, although the embarrassment from wearing them might haunt you for life.

  • Cleavage Covers

Say goodbye to embarrassing nip slips with Cami Secret, a dickie that snaps onto a bra to cover up that pesky cleavage.

Hello Jacqueline,

I take umbrage to you calling products in your article, “Worst Fashion Inventions: Heel Condoms, Lip Tattoos, Cleavage Covers And More,” the “worst fashion inventions.” Over years of selling fashion and beauty accessory inventions I've found that consumers love products that make them look good, feel good, provide comfort or are helpful. Yes, they may seem weird at first blush, but people sure are buying them!

For instance, Bumpits, TopsyTail tm, & Snuggie, may all seem frivolous at first, but they are products that sold over $100 million each. How weird is that?

Here are some products that our company presently sells and are in high demand, but might fall into your category of “worst fashion inventions”:

Bosom Button – Crystal pin that covers cleavage and prevents wardrobe malfunctions
Lobe Wonder – Ear lobe support patches for earrings
Perky No-More – Silicone pads for a braless look or a smoother appearance
Hair Bling – Do-it-yourself rhinestone hair extensions

In the end, perhaps these types of products are not the WORST, but among the BEST. It all depends on your point of view. At my office, the customer reigns & that’s the bottom line!

About Joan
Joan Lefkowitz, an original marketer of TopsyTail tm, is president of ACCESSORY BRAINSTORMS, NYC, a licensing agency, sales representative and consultancy for Fashion/Beauty Accessory and Lifestyle Inventions. ACCESSORIES Magazine awarded Joan for “Most Inventive Products” & cited her as one of the 100 most important accessories industry “Movers & Shakers”.

Thanks!
Joan

Actually...the heel condoms and lip tattoos look kinda fun for parties...you forgot to add patterned contact lenses (which damage your eyes).
