Pedestrian killed in downtown Vancouver

A 74-year-old woman has died after she was hit by a car in downtown Vancouver Tuesday afternoon, police say.

The victim was crossing the street just before 3 p.m. PT when she was struck by an SUV that was making a left turn from Robson Street onto Howe Street, said police Const. Lindsey Houghton.

“She was rushed to hospital but has since succumbed to her injuries,” Houghton said.

Houghton said the driver of the SUV was co-operating with the investigation and speed and alcohol are not considered factors.

It is Vancouver’s second traffic-related fatality of 2012 compared to three at this time in 2011, Houghton said.
