EVANSTON, N.S. - Nova Scotia's Strait Regional School Board has voted to close a third school.

The board voted in favour of permanently closing West Richmond Education Centre in Evanston no later than June 30, 2013 during a meeting in the community on Tuesday.

The decision follows votes to close Canso Academy and Reverend H. J. MacDonald Elementary School in Heatherton.

Board vice chairman George Kehoe says while closing the school isn't the popular choice, it is the right one because it will save the board money and provide better service to students.

The board has been grappling with reduced provincial funding and declining enrolment.
