WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. - An assault charge has been laid against a Mountie accused of beating a 17-year-old girl in the back of a police cruiser in Williams Lake, B.C.

The charge against Const. Andy Yung follows the recommendation of officers from the Abbotsford Police, who were brought in to conduct an independent investigation of the incident.

Yung is alleged to have attacked the girl Sept. 10, 2011 after officers were called to deal with a teen who was drunk.

The girl, who suffered facial bruising, was arrested at the time and investigators recommended a charge of assaulting a police officer, but that charge was later withdrawn.

Yung was put on desk duty after the assault charge was recommended.
