Joe Fresh Beauty Matte Lipstick: Looks For Spring 2012
By: Janine Falcon, TheKit.ca.
This Spring, your Joe Fresh Beauty Matte Lipstick in Fuchsia gets three hot new friends: Bubble Gum, Orange and Melon ($6 each). Simone Otis, makeup pro and consultant to Joe Fresh Beauty, gives us some behind-the-scenes intel on creating each shade.
Of the three new matte shades, Bubble Gum is actually not quite matte. And it took a while to get right. “I wanted a pink, neon-y colour,” says Otis, whose years of editorial work and backstage experience at Paris Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week goes into developing each season’s makeup collection for Joe Fresh.
Neon pink, of course, can be garish, which really isn’t the fresh-faced Joe Fresh look. And when the formula was all matte, it became too chalky, the white pigment too prominent. “Every time I saw it I pictured Nicki Minaj. Love her, but she’s not Joe,” says Otis. “Once we played with the texture a bit, it completely changed.” Lightening up on the matte finish changed the tone to deliver exactly the bubblegum pink the makeup artist wanted.
Melon is Otis’ happy coral. “A lot of the corals I had in my kit were peach. Every time you put them on they turn so warm. I wanted something that was true, bright, happy summer coral.”
The new Orange makes this orange addict (me!) so happy. In general, however, orange isn’t the easiest colour to wear, notes Otis, although she’s added variations in each lip range. “We worked on this colour and came up with a blue-ier shade. I like it in matte; I feel like that helps. When it’s a bit matte, different skin textures can get away with wearing an orange that bold.”
