Man stabbed in attempted car jacking

A 27-year-old man is recovering in hospital after he was stabbed several times by a man who was trying to steal his car late Friday night.

Montreal police said the victim was getting out of his car near the intersection of Legendre West and St-Urbain streets in Ahuntsic-Cartierville at around 10:30 p.m. when he was approached by another man who demanded his keys.

The victim refused, and a struggle ensued.

The suspect stabbed the 27-year-old man several times in the upper body before running from the scene.

Police said the victim then got back in his vehicle, drove to the gas station at the corner of L’Acadie Boulevard and Sauvé Street and called 911. The 27-year-old man was taken to hospital where he remains in stable condition.

“He’s suffering from serious wounds, but he will be OK,” said Const. Yannick Ouimet.

The suspect was described only as a white man between 25 and 30 years old, he said.

“Investigators do believe the motive to this attempted murder was to steal the car. That’s what it was all about.”
