Saskatchewan NDP claims schools could lose millions under new funding formula

REGINA - The Saskatchewan NDP is giving an "F" to the government's new funding formula for education — even though details won't be unveiled until the provincial budget next week.

New Democrat Trent Wotherspoon says the education sector is bracing for cuts.

Wotherspoon says documents based on last year's funding level suggest 12 school divisions will take a financial hit.

He says the Living Sky School Division could lose $6 million while Prairie Valley could lose more than $9 million.

But deputy premier Ken Krawetz (KRAH'-vetz) says Wotherspoon is off on his numbers.

Krawetz says the province has worked on the new education funding formula for three years and it will better reflect the needs of school divisions.
