A wheelchair-adapted minivan stolen from a Montreal family last weekend has been recovered.
The van was found Thursday at at a scrapyard in Iberville, Que., south of Montreal. The scrapyard's owner said he will return the van to the Paraskevopoulos family in Montreal's Lasalle borough.
Thirteen-year-old Phillip Paraskevopoulos has cerebral palsy, and his family relies on their only vehicle, the wheelchair-adapted 1999 Dodge Caravan, for transportation. It was given to them as a gift last fall.
The van, which has stickers clearly showing it's an adapted vehicle, was stolen from a Walmart parking lot last weekend. The family's insurance company refused to pay to replace the van.
But the scrapyard owner who ended up buying the van contacted police on Thursday, who in turn called the family with the good news.
