Toronto police say they are looking for a suspect after a taxi driver was assaulted in the city's east end.

The incident was apparently prompted by a dispute over the fare.

Police say the taxi driver suffered head injuries and was taken to hospital.

The cab driver received stiches to his head and is expected be released from hospital.

The assault happened near the intersection of O'Connor Drive and Victoria Park Avenue at about 2 p.m.

Police say there were a number of people in the taxi when the dispute erupted: one male and three females.

It's believed the dispute over the fare resulted in the suspect and the taxi driver getting involved in an altercation outside the cab.

The driver apparently fell and struck his head.

Police say the man they're looking for is black, about 25 and was wearing a red T-shirt, black baseball hat and black track pants.
