National Spring Cleaning Week 2012: How To Organize Kitchen Cabinets (PHOTOS)

This week marks National Spring Cleaning Week. Each day, The Huffington Post Style team will give you tips on how to organize the most used spaces in your home.

It's probably the most used room in our homes besides the bedroom: the kitchen. We spend an inordinate amount of time wining, dining, cooking (or at least attempting to) and eating in our "food room." And when it comes to keeping your kitchen organized and tidy, spring is the perfect season to start de-cluttering.

"Remember when your mother spring cleaned the entire house every year? It sounds dramatic, but unless your kitchen is enormous (in which case, round up a helper), there's no reason you can't empty and clean every cabinet," says Rebecca Childs, a professional organizer based in Ottawa.

For day two of our spring cleaning series, we take you into this most-used space. Here are Child's 10 tips to de-clutter and organize your kitchen space.

Before you start cleaning countertops and cabinet doors, make sure you take everything out of your kitchen. "Unless your kitchen is enormous, there's no reason you can't empty and clean every cabinet out," says professional organizer Rebecca Childs. This way, not only will the insides of your cabinets be squeaky clean, you can also see the junk you've hoarded all year.

"How to organize your kitchen" I was going to read this article because I thought it was about having sex on the kitchen table!

The wife has old china dishes on the easiest lowest shelf. We've never used them in 27 years of marriage and 3 yrs dating. She refuses to put them in boxes and away. Same with cookie cutters and several unusual, rarely use items. We have a cheap waffle maker and an electric fry pan that we've never used. I don't even want to get into how many cats she has.

I can't speak for your wife, but I like having all my kitchen things around me. I do donate some once in awhile. And I have a lot of cats also. The house is my territory and the garage and the yards were his. That way neither of us said anything to each other about all our stuff.
I see you and I are (were) married about the same amount of time. I also have kitchen things I haven't used, BUT I MIGHT!!! :)

That's what she say too! I use to have my man cage, kinda, (in the garage). But now it's just clutter in her mind and I have to get rid of it. I have my bigger tools on a pegboard and outlined. Wouldn't you know she finds the tool she wants but can't put it back where she got it. It all piles up on my bench. Then it's, "why don't you ever clean up all this stuff!" I like what Tim Allen said on a Tool time episode. "I have no opinion", (nor hobbies) I guess. But I'm still alive and kickin'. Now I'm more on the computer than ever. (Another hobbie that she doesn't like), but so far I've resisted her complaints.

Your situation makes me sad.
My husband died a year and a half ago. What I wouldn't give to have him and all his stuff back with me.
