Chef Drama: Calgary Cook Causes Customers To Flee After Brandishing Knife

The Huffington Post Canada  |  By Posted: 03/21/2012 10:54 am

A family eating at a restaurant in Calgary found themselves in a dicey situation this week after complaining about their meal. Their complaint prompted the chef of the eatery to meet with the family -- and then allegedly also motivated him to wave his meat cleaver in the air, causing the family to scramble out of the restaurant in fear.

Police were later called to the scene of the restaurant in the northeast end of Calgary and said the dispute began as a verbal argument between the two parties. However, since the knife was not used violently and no one was hurt, the chef would not be facing any charges.

Think this Calgarian chef's response was out of line? Check out these other six meltdowns these cooks have had in the past:

If you're going to bad-mouth the burgers at Hubcap Grill in Houston, Texas, then you'd better be prepared to say it to the chef's face. That's the invitation chef and owner Ricky Craig (not pictured here) sent out to Ewan MacDonald, a writer for A Hamburger Today, after he criticized the chef's supposedly bland patty.

Craig wasn't happy with MacDonald's critique, so he did what any sensible chef would do -- verbally berated MacDonald over Twitter. You can view the exchange here, here, and here.

Actually, this incident reminds me of a Monty Python skit.. I believe it's a couple dining
in a restaurant. One of the couple, complains to the waiter about the meal. The chef then
comes out of the kitchen with a knife, I believe. I'm a little sketchy on the details after that.

Chapman asks for a clean fork, & it escalates. Cleese loses it, old war head wound, waves around his cleaver. Palin calms him down & belittles Chapman. All settles & Chapman says..good thing I didn't mention the knife.

Live and worked as a pastry chef in Calgary. Seriously worried that this story was about my old boss. Awesome.

I made the desserts. The restaurant served food other than chocolate, you know.

I knew a chef who would throw knives. He always missed though.
