DIGBY, N.S. - The governments of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick say they will provide up to $6 million over the next three years to fund the ferry service that connects Digby and Saint John.

Nova Scotia Premier Darrell Dexter says each province will spend up to $1 million annually in Bay Ferries to operate and maintain the route across the Bay of Fundy.

Dexter says the $200-million fishing industry in southwestern Nova Scotia relies on the ferry to help deliver their catch to markets in Canada and the United States.

The funding is scheduled to end March 31, 2014.
