As the NDP membership gathers in Toronto for the party's leadership convention, many must be sweating whether their favourite candidate can win.

Don't be afraid! Rick Mercer has the solution: Fourth Ballot Deodorant.

The fictional formula has the ability to keep you dry and comfortable even as you abandon your principles and embrace the consensus choice. "The first layer for sticking to your ideals, the second layer of compromising aloe, the third layer of strategic anti-perspirant and the fourth layer, topical anxiety suppressant."

Convention Coverage, HuffPost Style: Over the next two days, while NDP members pick their new leader in Toronto, follow HuffPost Canada as our team brings you comprehensive coverage. We'll be posting photos, behind-the-scenes video, opinion and reporting from the convention floor.

Follow us at @HuffPostCanada, on our Ottawa Bureau Chief Althia Raj's Facebook Page, on our NDP leadership site, and on our politics page and our front page. Friday, we'll be covering candidate speeches and a tribute to Jack Layton. Saturday morning, we'll be following the rounds of voting that will end with the new leader.

The only question is, what happens if the voting heads to a fifth ballot?

Last spring, Jack Layton led the NDP to an historic election result: the party leapt from fourth in the House of Commons to Official Opposition. Less than four months later, Layton died of cancer. In the seven months since his death, nine candidates declared their intention to run to replace a leader known to his staff, to colleagues and to voters simply as Jack. Seven leadership contenders remain as the NDP heads into Saturday's vote. (CP)

I've been watching some of the candidates speeches at the NDP convention, and when I contrast them with the candidate running for the Republican leadership, I realize how lucky we are that in Canada we such high caliber political candidates, especially as compared to the freak show that has unfolded south of the border.
It seems to me that almost any of these candidate would make good leaders for the party, and I find it hard to chose between such a group of excellent people.

Rick Mercer, you tell it like it is. I wish our countries leader would do that. I wonder if there is a deodorant to fend off the stench coming from the conservative government. Perhaps there is a new deodorant that all Canadian could begin to wear that would protect us from the corrupt politics of the Harper government. At least I can laugh at the humour of Rick Mercer, I cannot laugh at what is being done to our once great country.

I also think his parody of nerdy dippers is funny, although a bit dated

I thought it was pretty funny, but I don't dislike any of the candidates (at least not more than I dislike Harper)

If by moxie you mean lack of scruples then I'd have to agree.

I still love Mercer, and I found this video great, but that's because I'm not a partisan hack who trolls the boards looking for chances to get a shot in at the "other side".

You obviously didn't read my Mercer comments yesterday.

hmmm still smarting because Rick Mercer called attention to the lack of integrity in last election?

have you added your voice to a call for a full inquiry into election fraud?

Why Bogey because he makes fun of your beloved Dippers??

I like Rick Mercer, and the NDP. I found this to be funny.

Btw, what I don't like is convention floor alliances and backstabbing. Remember Dion emerging as leader? Anyone remember Peter Mackay taking the helm of the PCs only to feed them to the reformist dogs?
