SQ officer injured in Hwy 10 crash

A Quebec police officer was injured after another car slammed into the side of a cruiser on Highway 10 early Friday morning.

The Sureté du Quebec officer was escorting a transport truck at around 4 a.m. near the junction with Highway 35.

The officer was blocking traffic in one lane for the extra-wide truck to enter the highway. While that was in progress, the cruiser was struck by a westbound car, said Sgt. Daniel Thibodeau.

The officer suffered serious leg injuries, including fractures. The other driver also received minor injuries to the face.

“The driver of the other vehicle, we believe, was intoxicated by alcohol,” Thibodeau said, adding that blood-alcohol tests were done, but the results won't be available for a few days.

“This person was arrested, test were done and [the driver] was subsequently released pending accusations that may come at a later date.”
