B.C. fishermen rescued from ice jam

Two fisherman were rescued this weekend after being trapped by an ice jam at the north end of Okanagan Lake.

The pair were out fishing late Saturday afternoon when a strong wind blew sheets of ice together around their boat, stranding them some 500 metres off shore.

Search teams found the two after hearing their calls for help. They were trapped by a patch of ice several hundred metres wide.

Rescuers were able to walk across the ice floe and collect the two men, who were not injured.

Ice is a rarity on Okanagan Lake, but can form at the north end where the water is shallow and stagnant.
