Montreal police are investigating a series of thefts at churches in the West Island in the past two weeks.

Thieves broke in to Beaconsfield United Church through a window last Thursday.

They stole electronics and other equipment worth about $5,000. Food donations were also stolen, unsettling the congregation and shaking "people's fundamental trust about life," said Rev. Shaun Fryday.

"All these organizations are dealing with the most vulnerable people in society — you know, the poor, the intellectually handicapped adults, children and youth."

Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Beaconsfield and St Mary's Anglican Church in Kirkland have also been robbed this winter.
