Rick Mercer rants are usually negative in nature -- pillorying our politicians for all the things they've done wrong.

But Tuesday night's season finale performance was different. Mercer took the time to point out the positive work one school in Peterborough -- PCVS -- has been doing.

Students at the high school of former prime minister Lester B. Pearson found out this year that PCVS is slated for closure. That didn't stop them from raising more than $50,000 to help protects kids from Malaria on the other side of the planet.

No wonder Mercer would like to see them in government. "If I could replace the entire federal cabinet with 39 kids from P.C.V.S. I would do it in a heartbeat. I take that back, I would replace them with 25 kids, Harper's cabinet is too big as it is."

The students at PCVS have promised to keep fighting the closure. And if their rendition of "Raise A Little Hell" on Mercer's show (watch below) is any indication, they are going to be a force to be reckoned with. Good luck PCSV!

My high school was threatened with a shut-down several years ago. The school board wanted to amalgamate the only high school in town with another high school in another town. That meant that we would have had to have been bused out of town.

The community rallied and fought back against the amalgamation and the high school survived. PCVS, don't give up, keep fighting. All of us who have had to go through this are marching with you in spirit.

I find it amusing that so many people take the time to complain about Mercer, there are plenty of shows I don't watch because I don't like them or agree with them. As far as I know this country has not yet passed any law stating it's population must watch any particular program.

A lot of non-mercer fans here. Fair enough but he is very popular with many, many Canadians, as is the CBC. I much prefer the positive vibe of the CBC over the negativity of sun news, which I'm sure many of the nay-sayers here prefer. CBC loves Canadians, Sun News is like a cranky old man who sees bad things everywhere and wants Canadians to be like Americans.

I could not agree more. there are so many kids today that show such heart, compassion and determination. I can hardly wait til they start running things with that kind of commitment

PCVS was the first school I taught in. The kids are outstanding and right. If there's one school the KPRDSB should keep, it's PCVS.

My dad, and aunt went there.

The sad part is, only two members of the school board are fighting the closure.

All the boards arguments about closing the school make no sense. I makes you wonder the real reason they want to close it.

Oops. My gut says it's about real estate value and operating expenses. The 2 schools on the block are PCVS and TASS. TASS is waterfront, but PC is downtown. PC is far more beautiful and has the best theatre in Peterborough.
