CBC Cuts: Don Cherry Loses Funding For His Famous Suits On 22 Minutes (VIDEO)

The CBC is set to lay off more than 650 staff and begin airing ads on radio, but it's the effect of cuts on Don Cherry's wardrobe that got the attention of "22 Minutes."

What "Hockey Night In Canada" viewer hasn't wondered about the cost of Cherry's signature suits? Whether the fabric comes from couch cushions or window drapes, the price must be high enough for the CBC brass to take a look. At least that's what "22 Minutes" figures.

Cherry isn't just mad about his threads, he also can't believe the Tories are cutting the penny -- just like "the Swedes and the Fins ... bunch of visor-wearing, penny-pinching Europeans."

While actual cuts to the budget for CBC's flagship sports franchise seem unlikely, the broadcaster's contract with the NHL does expire after the 2013-2014 season. They lost the rights to the iconic theme song to CTV back in 2008 and, with a smaller budget, it seems likely the CBC may lose their Saturday night hockey rights to the private sector as well.

If that happens, I'm sure they can always find room for Cherry on "22 Minutes."

This Hour Has 22 Minutes airs Tuesdays at 8:30 pm on CBC TV. Catch more clips of the show on Facebook and Twitter.
