BellMedia cancels long-time show Fashion Television.

Bell Media has confirmed "Fashion Television" (widely known as "FT") -- a weekly half-hour show that profiles the greatest talents from the worlds of fashion, photography, architecture and design -- has been cancelled.

The show has been on air for over 27 years and has won multiple awards. The series is seen in Canada and around the world -- including Norway, Sweden, Finland and other European countries.

Hosted by Jeanne Beker, the show has become one of the most notable fashion television programs in the industry. And Beker, herself, has become one of Canada's most iconic and influential fashionistas.

In a statement released by Bell Media, officials say they look, "forward to an exciting future with [Beker], including the development of new projects. Bell Media remains committed to the fashion genre and will continue to grow FashionTelevisionChannel to deliver a broader appeal for viewers, advertisers, and distributors."

The statement also thanked founding producer Jay Levine for his dedication to the series.

The news hit Twitter after Jeanne Beker Tweeted: "So surreal. This dream is over: After 27 glorious years, FT production ceased today. So sad to see some of my closest colleagues move on."

Here are some of the reactions to the cancellation news.

She doesn't come off as annoying as much to me as much as her guests, specially those fashion moguls they all act like they're living on a different planet what a bunch of pretentious people they are

Becker is a nasty piece of work. Surprised she lasted this long. A total doooooche.

For a show about fashion, it always seemed like the least cool program around. It had become the opposite of what's cool.

What does meeting her in person have to do with her show?

Like Fashion TV. Liked her show because it was about fashion. Never liked her. No thanks again

She is not nice in person. But you have to remember - things were rough for women in media back in the late 70's early 80's so the ones who survived tended to be tough, blunt, and sometimes flat-out mean.

I did an event with her in 2002 and she was barking at everyone - but you know what, that event went off perfectly.

A dozen years or so ago, I watched her make the flight attendants cry during a flight from Toronto to Paris. Who wears sunglasses on an airplane - totally affected person.

I will miss FT. It was cool, innovative TV and Jeannie was a terrific host.

Very, very sad.
I grew up watching Jeannie and FT.
I've been watching my whole life.
I learnt so much about design, fashion and style.

Wish the show very much.

Victim of a very unhealthy merger, um, I mean takeover of CityTV by CTV.

Wow--I can't believe this show is only now getting cancelled. I used to watch it way back as a teen and had since completely forgotten about its existence.

Does anyone remember the late night CityTV show--I forget the name--it was simply jazz music with a car filming driving and walking around Toronto. I used to love CityTV!

Global TV did a few of these, too if I remember rightly. It was to show off the steady cam they acquired.

I never understood why they chose her to do a fashion show - she is not attractive or particularly good at interviewing and really does not come across as a very nice person. I stopped watching this show about 25 years ago - so long J and I won't miss u .

Because she showed up, hit her queue, and made sure everything was done on time and under budget. Sometimes the most talented are not the ones who rise to the top - it is the toughest.

Having met Becker (Ms. Pacmouth.) many times, I can tell you she is a horrendous bee-otch to those around her..

Still remember a Frankie Goes To Hollywood interview where they asked about JB. The interviewer asked why the band brought her up and they replied that "she talks well with her mouth full".

Jeanne Beker passed her sell-by date a long time ago.

She needs to make way for younger, fresher talent.

So, you don't like old people on TV?
10:18 AM on 04/12/2012
I actually don't watch TV anymore.

TV is better with change and new faces. Problem with you Canadians is that you don't have enough talent from which to pick new faces, so you end up with the same faces year after year after year....
